Melee broke seed by 4, finishing 9th overall this weekend. Check out Score Reporter for results.
Saturday we started out with a win against Humboldt State, breaking seed. We played UCSB next, falling behind as they went on a 6 point run. We returned a 3 point run, but struggled to score in the endzone, losing 15-8. We were able to finish the day strong by defeating Claremont and UCLA, the one seed in our pool. Because of point differences, we finished 3rd in our pool.
Sunday we started out playing Colorado, a big regional competitor. We came out wanting to avenge last year’s regional loss and took half 8-2. Our play didn’t let up the second half as we won 15-5. Next, we played UCSD Psychos in a windy game. Both teams ran hard and the game was close at half, but we closed out the second half, winning 13-5 in hard cap. Our next game was a crossover game for the championship bracket against Sonoma State. Sonoma had a good run, taking an early lead. They were able to hold onto the lead as we fought to close the gap. We lost the game in hard cap, scoring the last point to lose by one.
Monday morning we faced Humboldt State again. They scored quickly to take the lead, but we took the lead after tying the score at 3s and never looked back. 15-9 Texas. For our final game we played Carleton College. It was an aggressive, physical game that stayed close throughout. We won in hard cap 12-9. Our defense and sideline proved crucial in our final game.
Throughout the tournament Melee kept our heads up and played hard, regardless of who we were playing or the score. Our positive attitude and confidence in each other as teammates and friends enabled us to have the strongest showing at Presday in years. We are excited to see how much further we will progress throughout the season, with two more pre-series tournaments to look forward to.
A big thanks to all of our supporters!
